Rublev Colours Cassel Earth is an semi-opaque brown with good tinting strength, medium grained and, like most Rublev Oil Colours, brushes "long" in the direction of the brush stroke. Our Cassel Earth is imported from umber deposits in Germany.

Historically, Cassel earth was based on lignitic earth or earth containing as much as 60% brownish-black coal (an intermediate between peat and bituminous coal). Rublev Cassel Earth is made from milled and purified umber. The particular umber chosen closely resembles the historical pigment in masstone, opacity and tinting strength. Historical Cassel earth was a fugitive pigment (that is subject to fading in light). Rublev Artists Oils Cassel Earth, on the other hand, is lightfast.

Availability: Usually ships within 24 hours.

We taken every care to match the color in these pictures on calibrated color monitors to the actual color. However, because of the wide variance in color monitors the results you get may vary.
