You can search for items in the store in two ways: Quick Search and Power Search.

If you don't know exactly what item you are looking for, browse the store by viewing the "Browse" section in the left hand menu of all product detail pages and review the categories of items organized by medium and then type.

General Search Tips

Quick Search and Power Search both search our entire catalog. Quick Search is a single-field search at the top of most pages in the store. Power Search allows you to apply search filters to your search.

Searching by Keyword

The keyword search looks for all the words you entered relating to the description of products in the store. For example, if you search on "Gold Leaf," the search results page will display all items that contain "Gold Leaf" in the title or product description, and are related to "Gold Leaf." You can be as general (e.g., "Pigments") or as specific (e.g., "Burnt Umber") as you wish. Be aware that your search results may be very long. You should choose Medium or Category if you know that is what you are looking for.

Formatting Your Keyword Search

It is not necessary to use any special characters in formatting your search. Simply enter the words you are looking for. Quotation marks, plus signs, or Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) will be ignored by the search engine.

You can limit the keyword search to "All of the Keywords," "Any of the Keywords," or Exact Phrase." The "Exact Phrase" selection will look for only the keywords in the exact manner in which it is entered. For example, if you enter "Kolinsky Round Brush" the search engine will only return those items with the phrase "Kolinsky Round Brush," but will not return any items that contain simply "Kolinsky," "Brush" or "Round" in their description.

The search engine is case-insensitive. You can enter your search in all capitals, all lowercase, or mixed case.

Searching by Medium

Select a medium, such as "Casein," "Encaustic," etc., from the drop down list of mediums in the store. The search engine will try to find products that match the medium.

Searching by Manufacturer

Select a manufacturer from the drop down list of manufacturers in the store. The search engine will try to find products with the manufacturer's name or brand name.

Searching by Category

Select a product category, such as "Brushes," "Paints," "Pigments," etc., from the drop down list of categories in the store. The search engine will try to find products that match the category.

Searching by Date

Enter the earliest date and the latest date to narrow the results of your search to items added to the store inventory within a specific date range.

Searching by Price

Enter the lowest price and the highest price to narrow the results of your search to products within a specific price range.

Quick Search

1. Go to the search field at the top of most pages in the store.
2. Type the desired keyword in the text field as described in the General Search Tips.
3. Click on the arrow to the right of the text field.
4. The search results will display a list of items that best match your search criteria, arranged in order of the product ID. You will be able to resort by alphabetical order or by price.

Power Search

The Power Search form allows you to narrow your results to the exact item or items you are looking for.

1. Click on the Power Search link at the top of most pages in the store.
2. Type the desired keyword(s) in the text field as described in the General Search Tips.
3. If desired, you can narrow your search further by selecting an option from one or more of the five dropdown menus: Medium, Manufacturer, Category, Date or Price.
   Medium—narrows your search to only items within a specific medium, such as "Casein" or "Oils."
   Manufacturer—narrows your search to only items made by a specific manufacturer, such as "Manetti" or "Gamblin."
   Category—narrows your search to only items in a specific category, such as "Brushes" or "Pigments."
   Date—narrows your search to only items added to the store inventory during a specific date range.
   Price—narrows your search to only items in a specific price range.
4. When you have entered all the relevant information, click on the Search button to start your search.

Search Results

The search results page displays information about the item(s) that match your search. If the search engine isn't able to find any exact matches for your search, the page will return an empty display. Click on the picture and/or title of the item to read more about that item, or to order the item.

Search results are presented in order of product ID in the store. You can also sort your results in alphabetical order or by price, by making your selection from the pull-down menu and clicking GO.
